Glittery Greatness
Welcome to Technique Friday! Today I want to share with you my love/hate relationship with glitter, and how it has recently become more of a love affair then a hate relationship. The change began when I discovered two tricks that keep my glitter from flaking off of my projects and ending up all over everything in sight.
The secret: the right adhesives. Now, I know you are thinking, “I already knew that!” I did too. But it still took me MONTHS to find the right adhesives. None of the standard adhesives I use all the time worked. So, here is what does:
To use it with glitter, you use clear embossing ink to stamp an image, then sprinkle the stamped image with Stamp n’ Bond. Shake off the excess, and heat with your heat embossing tool. The Stamp n’ Bond powder melts quickly and becomes a sticky adhesive. Quickly sprinkle your glitter on the hot surface, and pat it down. Shake off the excess glitter, and the glitter you adhered to your stamped image will be permanently attached to your layout. No more glitter flaking off every time someone looks through your albums!

The other product I have found to work well for glitter is Ranger’s Glossy Accents. Surprised? I was too! I hadn’t thought about using this product to adhere glitter, but it works great for more detailed applications, like along an edge. I made a card recently where I edged my trees with Glossy Accents and then added glitter. The Glossy Accents dried clear, and my glitter is firmly stuck in place, with no flaking. I recommend one of our medium or heavy weight cardstocks for this project, since the paper won’t wobble or warp at all while you are applying your Glossy Accents.
Here is a sneak peek of my card. I used Brown Paper Packages for the trees, and it worked perfectly.
