The Couture “Color Room”

Color,Designer Projects 7 June 2010 | 58 Comments

This month, Couture Cardstock has teamed up with The Color Room, a website dedicated to inspiring crafters with a new color palette and sketch every week. Each week, Alyssa or myself will be creating a layout using coordinating Couture Cardstock colors for the palette offered. At the end of the month, we will be supplying The Color Room RAK winner with a prize pack containing all the coordinating colors for the month of June!

I had the honor of going first and creating with this week’s palette. {Her Room} looks a bit like this:

This week’s matching Couture Cardstock papers are “Courtesan, Crush, Hush, and Snow“. I went a little artsy on it, of course, using Glimmer Mist in “Red Velvet”, “Marshmallow”, and “Bubblegum”.

The very back, background is “Courtesan”. I altered it with distress ink and acrylic paint, and before I mounted the “Hush” cardstock, I cut out the middle of Courtesan to preserve for other details. I then cut the font out of this scrap, using my Cricut Expressions, outlined the letters with my signo pen, and coated with Glossy Accents to make them dimensional and shiny. (Come on, who doesn’t love shiny, ooh!) I also cut a strip of this leftover “Courtesan” and stitched it to a strip of “Crush” for the faux ribbon detail.

The “Hush” cardstock was altered using the Glimmer Mist and a border punch, and then I stitched around the edges.

For a fun detail, after adding my paint dots (created using the back-end of a paint brush) and letting them dry, I topped them with Glossy Accents as well.

Next Monday, Alyssa will be bringing you Palette #10. But in the meantime, make sure you visit us throughout the week as Nicole will bringing you a gorgeous project tomorrow and the rest of the week is filled with projects featuring our partnering company this month, Cosmo Cricket!

Whole Grain Companions

Collections 5 June 2010 | 31 Comments

The Whole Grains Monochromatic Collection is filled with paper bag colored hues, perfect for pairing with just about any color. Today I thought I would show you a few new paper collections that will beautifully coordinate with this cardstock line.

First, Basic Grey’s “Max and Whiskers” collection! What a fun set of patterned paper for all you animal lovers! I don’t own any pets other than fish, but I find myself craving to add this paper to my scrap stash.

Second, Crate Paper’s “Brook Collection” is a breathtaking palette that I think would pop against the wholesome hues of  our Whole Grains collection. (This Crate Paper collection reminds me a lot of the color palette within my own home, as a matter of fact, complete with the grainy browns, so of course I love this!)

Last, but certainly not least, Tim Holtz’s Idea-ology Collection “Lost and Found”. What an eclectic blend of colors and visual eye candy!

What colors do you like to pair with kraft flavored cardstock?

The talented Nicole has a project to share today using the Parisian Ephemera Collection.  Check this out:

The thing I love most about this layout is the abundance of details.  The layering under the title, the brads, the buttons, the little flowers, the stitching, the stamping mixed with the journaling.  It’s fabulous!

I hope you are inspired!  Thanks, Nicole, for sharing with us!    :)

Quick to Laugh?

Designer Projects 3 June 2010 | 19 Comments

Broni is hard at work on projects for our CHA booth this month, but she will return soon with her weekly card column.  :)  In the meantime, I have a project to bring you today.  I used lots of neutral cardstock: Millet, Cumberbun, Santa’s Beard, and Slate, along with some Bo Bunny patterned papers to create this layout.

The photo is of my son, whose favorite thing to to laugh every time I get the camera out.  I suppose it is better then crying!  :)

I also have a tutorial coming for those flowers in a few weeks.  Tomorrow, Nicole has a fun project to share.  See you then!

A Little Less Weight…

Collections 2 June 2010 | 0 Comments

…can be a very good thing!  And I am not talking about those few extra pounds that some of us struggle with.  I am talking about cardstock!  One of the unique features of  Couture Cardstock is that there are a wonderful variety of paper weights available within each collection or family.

Here is a little more about each of the weights.

Lightweight papers (60-75lb) are perfect for laying, altered art, paper piercing, pleating and folding. Offering plenty of pliability, contrast and texture without unnecessary bulk, lightweight papers are especially suited for delicate techniques.  I like to use them for all of my more detailed die-cutting.  I don’t have to run the machine twice, and the teeny-tiny delicate pieces cut perfectly every time.

Medium weight papers (76-90 lbs) are the “little black dress” of our product line. Ideal for paper crafters of all styles and abilities, they will be the foundation of your paper-crafting wardrobe. Whether you are a scrapbooker, card maker or altered artist, medium weight paper will ensure your designs are always on the best-dressed list.  I like medium weight papers for backgrounds, stamping, and anything that requires fussy cutting.  My choices are usually determined first by texture, but this weight is also a draw, as it works for almost anything.

Heavy weight paper (91-110 lbs) is ideal as the base for cards and scrapbook layouts. An excellent choice for adding structure to 3-dimensional projects and gifts, this product dry-embosses beautifully and stands up to the frequent handling and admiration your unique creations are sure to garner.  This is the perfect paper for anything that will be highly handled or carry a lot of weight from heavy embellishments.  This is also the weight you are accustomed to seeing in most textured cardstocks on the scrapbook market today.

This discussion wouldn’t be complete without a mention of our specialty papers.  From vellum, to shimmer, to parchment, they are all available in the store too.  There is a paper for every crafting need you will ever have.  :)  Happy shopping!

It’s All About the Texture!
