As this week’s release of our Pure Silk Collection demonstrates we are always looking for new, innovative and need driven products to add to our inventory. Recently, I have been thinking alot about quilling strips – tiny strips of paper used to make beautiful pieces of coiled art. I am personally not much of a quiller, but have been thinking of all the strips I have left over from variuos projects and wondering if I could use them or true quilling strips in new and different ways.  As I was browsing through an online gallery of vintage textiles it hit me – weaving.

My fashion based project this week was created from a plain Lori Train Case Purse from Creative Imaginations. It started out looking like this:

Here is the finished product:

The entire front of the purse uses tiny strips of Tadpole and Thistle Stalk from our Spring Valley Monochromatic Family to create the weaving pattern. I removed the handle and replaced it with a pleated trim. To ensure the handle would hold and the purse could actually be used I used Beacon Adhesive’s fabulous Fabri-Tac. To cover the seams between the woven front and the patterned paper adhered to the purse sides, I applied Jute with the Fabri-Tac adhesive.  Prima flowers, bling and ephemera were used to embellish the front. The complete supply list will be up in the gallery later this month.

What kind of new uses can you think of for quilling strips? Would you like to see them in the Couture Cardstock store?
